The Need
To understand the unique supported self-management needs of prostate cancer survivors.
The Action
A focus group discussion with prostate cancer survivors on different stages of their survivorship journey.
The Outcome
Participants were extremely open about their support needs, with a significant focus on emotional, social and sexual support needs. Insights gained from the focus group helped withthe design of a 6-week supported self-management program for this patient group, to be pilot tested in one hospital and then rolled out across the UK.
National Cancer Survivorship Lead
“Nicola’s person-centred skills created a trusting environment where we could discover deep insights from patients, often on issues they admitted were embarrassing or difficult for them to divulge. This was key to developing a support program that would deliver on the outcomes of most importance to patients.”
